PROJECT 1: Literacy Program
Educating Young Minds
Learning in the face of hardship is an alternate outlet for the children living in the region and to bring home in the midst of their present circumstances. War disrupted their lives and robbed them of access to education and future opportunities. Especially, when displaced communities native language is an oral language with very little, to no resources written in their native tongue.
Their hope is to for their children to be educated so that they can be more competitive for the job market and increase their opportunities for the future.
Our hope is to create children picture books, in their mother tongue, and give children the stepping stones they need in order to become literate. This also gives the children and their community a sense of dignity, and stability in an unstable environment. Creating children picture books alongside native speakers will help to provide a safe and secure environment, where they can learn to express themselves in their own language and begin writing down stories that speak to their culture and reaches their heart.
